Who was Bezalel?

(Pronounced BEZ-uh-lel)

Before we jump into this bible character's story, let's talk about talents. What is talent?

Talent is a special skill or ability that we have. Maybe you are really good at math or reading or even playing sports! You might enjoy these things, not only because you are good at it, but because you want to make your parents proud.

Who has given us our talents? To answer that question, we have to think about who created us. We know that God made us, we are His workmanship. God has placed special talents in us that we want to use to glorify him. Maybe you dance for the Lord, sing for Him, or play instruments to praise Him! Our talents should be used, not just to make our parents proud, but to please God as an act of worship.

We see that God chooses Bezalel and has given him wisdom and special skills in all kinds of crafts.  If we keep reading verses 7-11 show us that God used Bezalel to make the Holy Place where God would dwell. Bezalel used the gifts given by God, to give back to God and glorify him.

What can we learn from Bezalel's story?

We learn that our talents and gifts are

given to us by God. We should use our

talents to glorify him. "Whatever you do,

do it all for the glory of God."

1 Corinthians 10:31

What does it mean to glorify God? Well, it means we are acting, feeling, and even thinking in ways that show His greatness. We glorify God by everything that we do. When we obey our parents, when we show kindness (remember we learned about this last week with Tabitha!), when we sing worship songs... can you think of more? These are all examples of how we can glorify God!

So, let's thank God for our talents and ask Him to help us grow in it to bring Him glory!

prayer

Lord we thank you for all of the blessings you have given us. Father we pray that you will direct our paths and that we would be obedient to you all the days of our lives. We pray that you would show us what talents or gifts you have given us so that we can use them to please you. We pray that what we have learned will remain in our hearts and minds so that we can put it into practice. In Jesus Name we pray, amen!
