Let's talk about Kings!
Week 6
Get a piece of paper and write down your answers to these questions:
-
Who holds the highest position in the Kingdom?
-
Should the King and Queen be served?
-
If so, what are some ways they can be served?
-
-
If a King is a good and loving King, should he stay in power?
-
Why do you think people want to be King or have a higher position?
Jesus is King
Jesus is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God. Yet we know what he did for us. Jesus, being a King, willingly decided to take the role of a servant. He became human.
Have you ever heard of a king leaving his throne of majesty to serve a people that rebelled against him? Usually, Kings love their place of honor and royal standing. In this case, it is hard to understand why Jesus left his place of honor and majesty to live among us. He walked among us healing the sick, letting the blind see, he even washed his disciple’s dusty feet. He took the role of a servant so we can one day be with him in glory. He gave his life as a sacrifice to free us from the grips of death. Jesus did not stay in a place of comfort where he reigned with power and in full glory with the Father but willingly stepped down from that place to become one of us. Through it all, He kept his divine nature (he was perfect and holy).
There was no other way to save humanity than for Jesus to overcome death and bear our sins on the cross. The reason it had to be Jesus the son, is because He is the only one who is pure, holy, and without blemish.

John 13:3 says, "Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God.”
-
Mark 10:45 says, "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
One day the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” In other words, how do we get a high position seat in heaven?
He responded by saying, "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18
Jesus also says, "The greatest among you will be your servant." Matthew 23:11.
Jesus’s life is matchless, but his life serves us as an example in the way we should live. If the King of heaven and earth, the one who owns it all, served and sacrificed it all for our peace, in gratitude we should act and live in a way that resembles His kingdom.

1 Peter 2:9 says, “For you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praise of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
