God's Word

Week 16

The Word of God is the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth!

There is so much talk today about truth; and whether what is true for you is also true for me. The reality is that we can only find the truth from one source, and that source is God.

God has given us the bible as a guide for our walk. Think of it as the roadmap for our life. Although it was written by man, it is God-breathed and inspired by God. We read that God's word is:

Sharper than a double-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12)

God's word is alive, convicting and powerful!

The seed is the Word of God (Luke 8:11

The Word of God is planted in our hearts, allowing our character and love for God to grow.

In the book of Jeremiah, he says that God's word is like a fire in his heart, a fire in his bones. (Jeremiah 20:9) It motivates us to do the will of God and excites our soul!

The Lord declared, "Is not My Word like fire,” declares the LORD, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?” A hammer can break rocks into pieces, just as God's word breaks the hard hearts of sinners. (Jeremiah 23:39)

Psalm 119:105 says, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” God's word is what guides us in our daily walk and leads us through the darkness of this world. It is our source of truth!

James 1:22-24 says “Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves.  Do what it says.  Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and after looking at himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like." This means that listening to the word is important, but it requires an action. We have to do what it says. Our actions should reflect the Word just as a mirror does!

John 1:14 says that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. This Word who was in the beginning with God is Jesus! Well you might wonder how can Jesus be the Word of God and the bible is the Word of God too? Well, they go hand and hand. You see the bible is the Word of the Father about the Son. And the Son (Jesus) is the Word of God, Christ has made known the character of God the Father!

In a world of a lot of confusion today, God has left us a book that has every answer we could ever need. Through the stories told, the testimonies recorded; the book points in one direction: That is to Christ. Is shows us that the answer to our problems is not within ourselves, but it is in the person of Jesus Christ. Reading the Word of God is important for our daily walk.

Why should we read the bible if we are already saved by Christ? Because it shows us how we must walk as believers in Christ! Let's make an effort to read the Word of God each day and ask Him to give us the wisdom to understand it and write it on our hearts!
